September 8th, 2022
Dear Newcomers Community,
It is with great excitement that we opened our doors today, again, for our students to usher in the beginning of the 2022- 2023 school year!
It was wonderful to see so many new and returning students and families entering the school this morning. We have been preparing throughout the summer to offer enhanced courses and learning experiences for all of our students. We seek to ensure that all students and their families have a deeper understanding of the road to college, career and civic readiness so that all of our students are maximizing their potential and able to accomplish their dreams and goals. This year there are changes within the NYC DOE regarding the ways in which schools will communicate with families. Schools will be using a new Grades, Attendance and Messaging system (GAMA) for caregivers to see student progress, attendance and to communicate with schools. We must make a big effort to ensure all our caregivers, families and guardians have access to this GAMA system by setting up their NYC Student Account (NYCSA) so that we can keep channels of communication open between our school and your homes. For this reason, we are inviting caregivers to come to a “Meet the Counselor Evening” on Thursday September 15th, 2022 from 4:00PM- 6:00PM to assist you in setting up your NYCSA. Please be on the lookout for information about this event.
Please encourage your students to be on time to school, each day. Every one of our students is at their own stage in their journey through high school and the best way for us to help move forward is to see them in school every day.
We look forward to a great year. Thank you for working in partnership with our school community.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Messmann
Principal
