NYC DOE Admissions' Process

Families will need to start the admissions' process by visiting the NYC DOE Family Welcome Center. Choose the language of preference to complete the online registration form.

Once the form is complete, send an email to one of the following Queens Family Welcome Centers:

Pre-Registration Checklist

  1. Parent/Guardian ID (valid passport/alien registration/driver’s license):

    • If Guardian: A GUARDIANSHIP LETTER must be notarized. 

    • If Parent: state the guardian’s name and include a copy of the photo ID from the parent and guardian.

  2. Student ID (photo ID - passport, alien registration, etc.)

  3. Two Proofs of Address:

    • A telephone bill, cable bill, credit card bill, medical insurance card, or driver’s license is not acceptable proof of address. Proof of address may be verified by:

    • a residential utility bill (gas or electric) in the resident’s name issued by Keyspan, Con Edison, or the Long Island Power Authority (for the Rockaways) within the prior 60 days; or

    • documentation or letter on letterhead from a federal, state, or local government agency, including the IRS, the City Housing Authority, Human Resources Administration, the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS), or an ACS subcontractor indicating the resident’s name and address issued within the prior 60 days; or

    • a combination of any two of the following:

    • an original lease agreement, deed or mortgage statement for the residence;

    • a current property tax bill for the residence;

    • a water bill for the residence.

    • official payroll documentation from an employer issued within the past 60 days such as a form submitted for tax withholding purposes or a payroll receipt.

    • A letter on the employer’s letterhead is not adequate. None of the documents listed in section 2C above will suffice alone.

  4. Original Birth Certificate (If you do not have original Birth Certificate please contact school administrator)

  5. School Records:

    • under age 15 - must present proof of completing 8th grade (transcript/diploma)

    • over age 15 - must present proof of completing 9th and/or 10th grade (transcript)

  6. Provisional or Complete Immunizations:

    • Provisional = DPT, 1 dose of Polio, 1 MMR shot - all within two months of registration

  7. TB Results (within one year or must be done again within two weeks of registration)

  8. 211 S. Form (medical exam)

REQUIREMENTS ABOVE MUST BE COMPLETED WITHIN TWO MONTHS OF REGISTRATION.

College Now Courses

College Now Courses allow qualified New York City public high school students to enroll in courses that earn NYC CUNY college credits strengthening students' foundation for academic success.

College Now courses offered at Newcomers High School:

  • Topics in Biology
  • Statistics

  • English 101 Composition

  • Reading the Biography

Advanced Placement (AP) Courses

Advanced Placement Program -  offers college level courses and exams that you can take while in high school. 

Taking AP courses in high school could give you an advantage in college by letting you:

  • Earn college credit
  • Earn advanced placement
  • Save money and time
  • Stand out to colleges
